The challenge

on November 16, 2013
Posted In: sketch of the day

The challenge was to create drawings using every pen and pencil I’ve been carrying around with me in my bag—and this is, honestly, a WHOLE LOTTA pens and pencils for something that’s just my regular commute-to-work-carry-Metrocard-and-tissues bag—within a 24-hour stretch between Thursday and Friday afternoons. I was hit by a huge work project and didn’t get started until this morning (Saturday), and did actually use every pen and pencil within 3 hours.

I’m not going to count the last drawing, though, in which I became unaccountably fascinated with the Niji pen roll and drew that (at itty bitty size, of course). I’m going to draw some drawings that are not drawings OF pencils over the rest of the afternoon. In the meantime, I’ll start scanning and posting. I hope you find your sketches of the day amusing.

sketch of the day: Happy Halloween

A bear in a costume, because… well, I’m trying to make November the month of drawing again, so of course it’s a bear in a costume. Of course.

Little update

Sweetums knows where to find the best wine selections
I’ll be heading off for San Diego Comic Con a the end of this coming week—as part of my day job—where I’ll no doubt meet many, many people who actually have the mental stamina and creative wherewithal to finish their webcomics. Expect me to be very depressy-faced about myself.

I wish I could say the day job has been fabulous and has inspired lots of creativity, but…the less said about that, the better.

On the way out I’ll be travelling by train, and will try to use that quiet time to draw. On the return I have to travel by plane because a big company meeting is the Tuesday after SDCC, which plane I fully expect not to make it back, because I am hugely phobic about planes. I need to be heavily drugged just to sit in the boarding area. Seriously. I have to be unconscious to fly. I’m really not sure why I don’t just quit my job rather than have to fly. I guess because I really just don’t have anything else planned. (Except to finish the comic by, say, 2020 or so.)

I’ve always wanted to go to San Diego Comic Con, ever since I was a kid with stars in my eyes and ElfQuest clenched in my hand, so I’m finally getting to do that. I intend to spend a lot of time walking around in Artist Alley, where I think all the fun really is, but I’m expected to be networking and cruising for Big Name Talent (not necessarily comics talent, just Big Names) to drag into the company’s list. Like a shark. Like a really depressy-faced shark. My apologies in advance to anyone I bite along the way.
