Sketch of the day: Alexander & Menander

on May 8, 2016
Posted In: sketch of the day

This is art for one of the Kickstarter prints. I originally hand-watercoloured it, but that didn’t print well, so I redid it digitally and got better results.

The print includes a verse from Catullus:

Value all the old men’s gossip less than copper coins.
Suns set yet rise again, but when our brief light sets
that long night will be an endless sleep . . .

Not so much grim but an encouragement to enjoy life while you can. Gather ye rosebuds while ye may, and all that.

A couple of watercolour tests I did to see how they’d print:

Omigosh, TMI! [REDACTED] [REDACTED] FYI

I have been working myself ragged on freelance gigs, at the expense of regular updates on the comic and the Kickstarter, to cover rent, bills, and family medical expenses this month.

Unfortunately, after a lot of work, [REDACTED] not getting paid in full by [REDACTED] no particular reason [REDACTED] [REDACTED] [REDACTED] that’s how they roll.

[REDACTED] [REDACTED] If Domitian were here [REDACTED] volcano [REDACTED] Olympian wrath [REDACTED] stabby stabby [REDACTED] [REDACTED] Ides [REDACTED]

So, for the second half of this month, in addition to working hard on other–really great–freelance gigs, I’ll also be working myself ragged to finish a lot more comics, to sweep the story forward, to get the Kickstarter all tied up. Big things are about to happen, and I’m in a big hurry to get to them 🙂

All right, not VOLCANO big. But a few figurative earthquakes for our little Roman family.

After all the illnesses and funerals of the first two months of the year, the last thing I need is more crazy in March. I’m happiest when hanging around in Rome, so I’m going to do a lot more of that.

And of course:

Beware the Ides.

Apology (again again again)

Until I get all my freelance work sorted that was delayed by illnesses/funeral/etc./etc. I can’t fit in much of my own art or writing. I’ll get back to Rome as soon as I can, I promise.
