Ooh-oooh, we’re going to Rome! The brand new stadium, the Pantheon, the fabulous forum and of course the baths! I can hardly wait! Are we almost there yet?

At this moment in the story, most of the people in the city of Rome probably refer to that stadium project as the Big Dig, or [expletives deleted], or maybe “keeping me employed for the past ten years, please don’t ever be finished.”

And then there are the ones who are saying “You want us to train these lions to do WHAT? With RABBITS?? In time for the opening games?!?!!” (goes off muttering, “Stupid sponsors, always asking for spectacular stuff that’s going to fall apart and make them look stupid…and us too…”)

Now, keep that treat on your nose till I say “Okay!”

            . . . Oh, BAD kitty!

(What’s the Latin for “Silly rabbit! Tricks are for [delinquent] kids!”?)

Pretty close, going by Martial’s descriptions of lions with rabbits at the inaugural celebrations! (It seems they did succeed in training those lions.)

So this is the place where Damon’s cat decides to leave them and make a new living in the Coliseum a.k.a. Flavian Amphitheatre.

But at this time it was still under construction since it was finished in 81 AD. Titus died six months after the inauguration.

Yeah, that’s why I referred to it as the ‘big stadium’ also because I can’t spell Collosseum or Colon-seeum, or Collie sick ’em… Oh well, you know what I mean. The Emperor’s new Social Engineering project.

Then again, the Big Stadium offers some novel solutions for the burgeoning Criminal Class. And if the entertainments are wildly successful, we can always enlarge the Criminal Class…. oh yessss.

And if you run out of local criminals, go conquer someplace and make more. Easy peasy.

Yes, my thoughts exactly. Anybody who opposes Rome, or worse yet, hasn’t heard of Rome, is obviously a criminal type. Let them feed Lions!

Lion Chow hasn’t been invented yet. We can’t let the poor lions starve.
