Happy Birthday Bear
And this piece of art started off as a celebratory sketch for reaching 100 Kickstarter backers, but I’m giving it double duty to usher in SPQR Blues’s Tenth Anniversary month. I’m counting the whole month as the birthday, for extra funtimes.
I’m aiming to post something more substantial today, if I can.
It’s perfect. I love it!
Thank you!
There will be a lot of bears this month.
More than most months π
Now just wait a gold-durn minnit! This kickstart thing just might actually work! A-maze-ing!
DRW
Hoooray! We’ve done it. Now waiting for goodies!!
Fishes for everybody!
And other stuff π
Woohoo! More fishes and bears!
First time ever to pledge a kickstarter, but I’ve been hoping for this for years.
Congrats, Klio!
More, fishes, more bears, and now books, thanks to all the great people who backed the kickstarter! Now (for me) the fun of going into production begins π Thanks!
Ehh? I didn’t see the cow even when it sounded “Moooooo”. Could still be a bear which makes “Moooooo” sounds… LOL Congratulations anyway! XD
Yes, it’s must just be that our Roman friends are a bit nearsighted. And Sweetums is bilingual!
Wow, you’ve done it again: made yet another stretch goal. You must be wonderful and wise… DRW
Awwww…I’m too late for the kickstarter π
It would have been great to have you on board for the Kickstarter, but you’ll still be able to get the book after it’s printed π The minimum print run means there’ll be additional copies after all the backers get theirs. I’ll have to set up a proper shop page.
Ok, Thanks!
Congrats on the Kickstarter. Hope you return the favor on my upcoming one. π
Seriously, can’t wait for my SPQRBTPB.
And I’ll be happy to help spread the word too! Do you know when you’re launching the campaign yet?

I encourage folks to check out the link–it’s a quick read.
Oh, Josephus.
Of course, since he’s the one who tells the tale, it might have been sheer luck, or it might have been deliberate manipulation, or he might have changed the story to suit the drama that historic annals were expected to be. I think Romans would have nodded sympathetically at how our lives hinge on the vagaries of chance and how we must adapt to fate to reach our own ends, and then they probably would have given a sly admiring wink to how sometimes humans are completely in charge of cheating on the “luck of the draw.”
Hey Klio: You’ll be glad to know we started routing the wax tablets today. So far so good. DRW
“Youβll be glad to know we started routing the wax tablets today. ”
Gosh, here I am thinking you use a stylus on a wax tablet!
Yes, you DO use a stylus to write on a wax tablet. The Journey-person and I are routing out the 1/8 inch deep recess in the center where the blackened wax is poured. When that is smooth and dry, we use the pointy end of a stylus to write messages, and the smooth-flat end of the stylus lets us smooth out the wax, so the message disappears. It’s like an old fashioned ‘magic slate’ without the thing plastic film over the top. And now I’ve gotta go out to the shop and help look for the missing pair of plates. Silly journey-person couldn’t find her nose with her finger…
Thin plastic film, not ‘thing’ plastic film. I’ll never get the hang of this keyboard.
Yeah, I’ve heard the keyboards on those wax tablets are kinda lame. π
