And here comes Domitian, trying to get at Felix by making everybody around him miserable. Too bad this a*****e ruled for 15 years after Titus. Yeah, let the patient suffer pain to amuse us during these boring days in Misenum.
I wonder, why are they calling him Caesar since the only one who can use the title/name is Titus?
I assume that sometime during his waking hours, Alexander told them his name and family. Later that was cross indexed with the survivor lists. I doubt Domitian knows the relationship between Alexander and Felix, but I believe that is about to change.
At this time I think the only way Domitian will leave Felix and his loved ones alone is if Venus herself acts on his behalf.

Domitian took the title Caesar when he was 18, consolidating his father’s power in Rome while Vespasian and Titus were off with their armies. It was suitable for a prince, which he had now become. And wanted everybody to know it.
We could say he hasn’t been eating right since the losing the children. Or maybe from the excitement of imagining all those volcano victims in terrible, terrible pain. Because he probably does spend time imagining that.
Domitian takes an interest. Mus’ family was better off flying below the radar. Once the gub-mint gets involved it’s all paperwork and pesterment from there on.
Domitian would be the sort of person who never forgets a face (or a slight or imagined slight). At least he was amused by the Hebrew groom. But then he did find out the link between Mus and Felix later:
Yes… It probably wouldn’t have occurred to him not to tell Domitian, or not to mention it if Domitian were wandering about bored and asking who Helvius’s badly injured patients are.
He might not have to act. But, eventually, the haze will clear. And hopefully by then he’ll figure out that maybe he shouldn’t answer everything that guy he thought was a senator asks….
Comenting on the second comic, which I believe deserves its own page.
HAHAHAHAHA. I’ve never laughed so much, specially Iusta’s face and her ominous “You will be too busy for visiting.” Spoken like a true wife. Indeed girl, keep him busy.
If looks could kill, both Felix and her paramour would be cinders. Your carousing days are over Felix. Iusta will not countenance your visiting working ladies and you will not be allowed to visit the temple of Venus by yourself. Poor Vibius will have to be remembered with a cup of wine only.
Once Iusta has decided on something, she’s not going to give it up. Someone will have to give her a stern lecture about the privileges and rights of Roman males to do as they please. Not Felix, though. He wouldn’t dare at the moment.
Felix was sweating bullets when he presented Iusta. I could almost hear him stammer the W from Wife to Ward, while Iusta was coldly looking at him. Too bad the word play does not work in Latin.
I bet Iusta will counter that privileges and rights lecture with one about her own privileges and rights including the right to have her husband satisfy her needs before everything else.

Why I am not surprised. I think I’ll have to purchase Suetonius’ Vita.
Domitian has lost weight. Been working out?
We could say he hasn’t been eating right since the losing the children. Or maybe from the excitement of imagining all those volcano victims in terrible, terrible pain. Because he probably does spend time imagining that.
Do you think he felt their pain? Naw, probably just enjoying that someone somewhere was hurting really badly.
My mistake. By “felt” I did mean “enjoy.”

Some parts of the government have their best interests in mind and will do all manner of things to help them get back on their feet.
Not this part, though.
I just had a vision of Domitian telling his FEMA head:”You’re doing a great job here in Misenum, Brownie.”
Luckily, Titus was in charge of Roma-FEMA. Otherwise I’m pretty sure something like that would have happened.
Myabe he recognises Mus as the Hebrew groom. I think Felix was visible at the wedding.
Domitian would be the sort of person who never forgets a face (or a slight or imagined slight). At least he was amused by the Hebrew groom. But then he did find out the link between Mus and Felix later:
I assumed Helvius has known Mus’s identity all along. Herculaneum was not that big a town.
Yes… It probably wouldn’t have occurred to him not to tell Domitian, or not to mention it if Domitian were wandering about bored and asking who Helvius’s badly injured patients are.
I am loving your clean lines. You even make Domitian look good. 😀
Mus looks so young and vulnerable!
Thank you. I mean, I guess it’s good to make Domitian look good? >:)
The real question is: once Mus wakes up, will he have the sense to play woozy-stupid when Domitian starts with the questions?
He might not have to act. But, eventually, the haze will clear. And hopefully by then he’ll figure out that maybe he shouldn’t answer everything that guy he thought was a senator asks….
I don’t think Mus ever did report to Nonius that the baby was born. I’ve been wonderign when that would come back ot bite him.
Baby? What baby? Was there a baby? It’s all so hazy now. Baby?
Domitian might not be convinced.
Domitian will never be convinced. That was one of his most charming traits, eternal suspicion.
Ooops, one of those embarassing moments in the market. Justa will keep the lad busy.
As for Mus, I’m hoping he’s cagier than he looks. Just play stupid, Mus, nobody will suspect otherwise!

I’ll give the comic its own page tomorrow 🙂
