Animals saved: Sweetums, one orange-eyed kitten, all the runaway cats. Animals not saved: one horse. any others? Why were the gods mad at the poor horse?
Up to this moment it was “Volcano: 79 AD” a political/noir thriller a la game of thrones with a heiress that is fighting for her freedom and fortune while a volcano threatened to erupt. The heiress marry the younger of two brothers because a seer predicted her that if she followed the older one she would lose everything.
But now the volcano has erupted turning the entire Roman world upside down. And we have the missing brother who is declared dead yet is alive but really hurt and nobody knows who he is and is under the care of the sworn enemy of the older brother. While said brother’s wife now considers herself a widow and will probably marry the “surviving” brother to protect her interests and probably get pregnant by her new husband.
Not bad for “As the Volcano Erupts.” Do you know where can I find Lava Soap. I want to show my support.
Thanks. Although I forgot to add that the older brother managed to make enemies of the two most powerful men in the empire: the emperor and his brother.
In chapter-iv-ccxxxxiv we are shown that Mus is under the care of Domitian and quite safe from the volcano. So yes, the coin was picktunica-ed from Mus.
They’re foster brothers and cousins by birth. Mus’ parenst took in Felix when he was orphaned, And in the end Iusta did follow Felix to the ships. The prophecy did not mention Mus or marriage, just “following” Felix or not following Felix.
What wil Klio do to Mus when Domitian find out who he is? BWAHAHAHAHAHA!
Now now. I will do nothing to Mus. Domitian, however…
Unluckily for everyone, Domitian already knows who he is. He’s met him twice–during the wedding procession when Domitian was travelling incognito, and at the Nonius house when Mus gave away that he has ties to Felix.
I think a good luck charm worn by somebody either from Pompeii or Herculaneum will probably go higher than $5000. Context is everything when we are talking about historical artifacts.
I meant its value at the time. Not very valuable, as I suspected. Not worth a thief’s time unless the thief is young or desperate. Certainly not worth getting him drunk just to steal it. The chain was last seen aroudn Mus’ hand, so he may have just dropped it and someone picked it up.
Maybe he dropped it when the scaffolding fell on him, and somebody else picked it up after he was carried away? (And most likely never got a chance to spend it. So many everyday plans turned to ashes…)
Soldiers, soldiers never change. Not different from the people who write with chalk on 500 pounds bomb stuff like “If you can read this you are one lucky f***er.”
Poor Felix. His worts fears becoming reality.
Poor Mus – assuming he survives, will he remember who he is?
I don’t see why not but his problem will be to prove that he is “alive” when he has been declared dead. It also depends on how broken his body is.
Maybe Domitian will be a nice guy and help speed along the bureaucratic paperwork for Mus to prove he’s alive.
Because Domitian is a sweet fellow like that.
So if Justa ends up marrying Felix to protect her property, and Mus shows up later, we’ll have a real mess on our hands.
If that happens then we will have our Roman era soap opera “As The Volcano Erupts.” Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Don’t miss it.
He could come back as his evil twin. I hear that happens.
Toxic volcanic gases can probably turn anybody into his/her evil twin. Will he? Don’t miss you next installment of “As The Volcano Erupts.”
Animals saved: Sweetums, one orange-eyed kitten, all the runaway cats. Animals not saved: one horse. any others? Why were the gods mad at the poor horse?
The poor dog at Pompeii. The gods weren’t mad at the horse. The poor horse was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
And the gods were probably pretty irritated at Talicus. Poor horse.
Klio, one of the things I like in your art is that you can convey emotions. I like both the pain in Felix’s face as well as the sorrow in Shouty Guy.
Thank you so much. I feel like drawing this it’s been quite a learning process!
“As the Volcano Erupts” You mean, we’re NOT doing that? I don’t understand. Brought to you by Lava Soap…

I like you summary better than any of mine 😀
Now I’m off to go soap-shopping.
Thanks. Although I forgot to add that the older brother managed to make enemies of the two most powerful men in the empire: the emperor and his brother.
Good luck on your soap shopping.
I love the way you showed that Felix isn’t listening to S G’s first few lines.
I’ll just curl up in a corner and fervently hope that someone pick-pocketed (picktunica-ed?) the coin off Mus before the scaffolding part.
In chapter-iv-ccxxxxiv we are shown that Mus is under the care of Domitian and quite safe from the volcano. So yes, the coin was picktunica-ed from Mus.

I know that neither Mus nor Felix are blood brothers but for all purposes that is what they are, even if Mus was hoping for a more close relationship.
While Domitian knows who Mus is in relationship to Felix, I doubt he knows that the injured young man in his household care is Mus.
Yes, it’s unlikely Domitian has bothered to go look at the injured stranger…yet. Though he might get bored and curious.
are we certain it’s the same coin?
Felix seems certain.
Of course, he’s been worried about Mus ever since Mus failed to show up at the boats, if not earlier.
what is the financial value of this coin?
Somewhere between the cost of a can of soda and a large pizza.
Today in good shape? 🙂 I’ve seen anywhere from to $300-$5000; of course this one has a hole in it….

that’s how I read it anyway.

Uhh, you ARE aware that evil twins are traditionally called ‘Skippy’, aren’t you? Some were eye-patches so we can tell the difference.
Ah 🙁
