The imperial peafowl pardon? That’s the bird they used before turkeys – large fowl with spectacular plumage, to boot.
Maybe being pardoned for the feast of Juno?
Of course, Domitian has elected to pardon the rarer congo peafowl, whilst either an indian peahen, or a peacock after it has shed its tail (or maybe had it plucked) is being chased in the background.
