For all the research I did on sorting modern from ancient, mediaeval from antiquity, and sorting very ancient antiquity from Roman Italy, very little of the marriage ceremony actually ended up in this comic.

There’s evidence a community in this time and place would not have used a chuppah (canopy). It does look peculiar without it, but that will be easy to add in if further research gives different info.

Some customs or actions that seem absolutely intrinsic and indispensable today might have only just been developing during this chaotic time in reaction to the devastations of the decade. Some customs might have developed in later times as a way to recall aspects that were common parts of the general living environment then; in older times, these things did not need to be called out.
