For all the research I did on sorting modern from ancient, mediaeval from antiquity, and very ancient antiquity from Roman Italy, very little of the marriage ceremony actually ended up in this comic.
There's evidence a community in this time and place would not have used a chuppah (canopy). It does look peculiar without it, but that will be easy to add in if further research gives different info.
.... I've had to bear in mind that some customs or actions that seem absolutely intrinsic and indispensable today might have only just been developing during this chaotic time in reaction to the devastations of the decade, or might have developed later as a way to recall aspects that were common parts of the general living environment then, and did not need to be called out.
