He’s not a god until he’s dead. At which point the usual quip goes like this – Oh, no, I think I’m becoming a god. Apparently most emperors of the sane persuasion were well aware that their “godhood” was just a form of consolidating and controlling power and popular support. I have a feeling Damien may not be sane enough.
So, I’ve been doing a re-read of this wonderful comic and you know how you find things that you never noticed before with re-reads?
I found myself chuckling at the chat Mrs. Mus’ Mom had with Iusta and the girls before the wedding. I realized that not much has changed in the past 2K years. I am a gentile married to a nice Jewish boy and I totally had the “So You’re Not Jewish, Let ME Show You How To ‘Be Jewish'” talk with my mother in law before I was married. Mercifully, I was spared the talk on my future husband’s pliability.
Still, I remain confused on the subject of food storage. Luckily my husband doesn’t really follow those rules too closely.
So it just goes to show you. 16yo brides in ancient Rome vs. 30yo brides in modern New Jersey….Pretty much the same thing minus that whole ownership business.
Here’s your chance to scamper like a proper Mus. Go lad, into the bushes!
Not even Caesar can make dogs hurry about their business.
Ohh poo: Caesar can do anything. Isn’t he a god?
I see what you did there…
🙂

can alexander scamper yet? he’s still got an arm bandaged, so the restof him may not be healed either.
He’s not at peak scampering shape right now….
For those who aren’t aware of it. Domitian’s villa was later converted into Castel Gandolfo, the pope’s retreat in Lago Albano.
A humble little retreat, Domitian would say. But he’d be kidding. “Castle” is right there in the name 🙂
I love Mus’s little enigmatic smile.
Hope you get your software back onboard. I miss our Romans!
“Ars gratia artis” not “Arse gratia artis!”

The more things change, the more they remain the same.
