ETA: Added a little bit of shading now that I can move my arm again!
No shading today; I have a badly pulled muscle in my shoulder. Hooboy. If it isn’t one thing, it’s another.
It was not actually my intention to write suggestive dialogue, but once it happened, I didn’t change it.
Tomorrow I’ll set some October goals!
So Felix decided to go full Roman formal wear and is using the toga to conceal his gladius.
I feel sorry for Irenaeus, he is really sad about the death of his masters.
Again I congratulate you Klio, you do manage to convey emotions with a picture alone.
The only one missing in the last panel is baby Felicia.
We need a “Hero” view of Felix in full toga and with Iusta by his side, a family portrait of sorts. Perhaps they can commission the tenants to paint one.
Take care Klio and I wish you a prompt recovery and that you can unpull your pulled muscle.
aren’t togas supposed to conceal a man’s, um, gladius?
Yes, of course it does, but in this case we are talking about a sharpened steel gladius. π
I love Persephone’s approval. and Urbana’s daughtr speaks!
The cat is the one really in charge of this house. As in many houses with cats π
is persephone making an OK sign with her paw?
High V.
TOGA! TOGA! TOGA!
sorry, sorry, sorry
couldn’t resist
On a little bit more serious note, just about any strip that has that kitty in it improves my day. So glad you didn’t drown her.
Also, I am managing to resist the temptation to do anything with the suggestive dialogue. I’m fond of it, though. Please keep it.
I promised way too many people I’d show mercy to the kitten. Plus, Damon needed a break/win.
The dialogue was even more suggestive when I was writing it, before I made some trims to fit the panels. My subconscious was running the show yesterday.
Saying something like that only piques my curiosity! π hahaha
I was wondering about Damon’s age again, and whether he would wear a boy’s toga or the toga virilis, when I thought about his necklace.
We know it’s not a bulla praetexta, since he stole it from someone after his arrival in Herculaneum, but seeing it around his neck with that tunic and the short hair reminds me so much of Mus.
Makes me wonder if Felix is trying to remake the boy into Mus’ image to take his friend’s place in his life.
Damon should get himself into a boy’s toga if his dad’s going to act all upper middle class (lower upper class?)…he hasn’t had his, well, bar mitzvah (pagan counterpart) yet. Felix is going to be taken aback when he realises the kid’s original bulla is long since gone and he’s been wandering around unprotected. Then Felix’ll probably decide it’s high time for the kid to have his growing-up ceremony.
There might be a little subconscious replacing-his-friend going on. Or not so subconscious.
The Liberalia was celebrated in March, and Roman boys usually became men on the Liberalia of their 14th year, so he still has a few months of being a boy.
The images of Damon without the bulla praetexta were what made me think he was older than 13 originally, but I guess it would make sense that it was stolen from him or lost during all his misadventures.
Yes…when we first see him after Mus’s family agents go hunting for him he’s been stripped of everything.
FIrst I am reading your webcomic since a long time and realy enjoy it π
For the little replacing theory; I know in the end it is your story but as far as I remember Felix has always treated Damon like a son rather than a friend.
I always thought he sort of felt the same way about Mus. Protective and paternal, while still basically a friend.]
Iusta will be so proud that her husband is now a member of the upper class, albeit in the lowest rung in that ladder.
Well, they did use them (the togas) as a defense, rolling it around their left arm, when they broke into a fight in public places (happened quite often). Which means they were accustomed to having at least a dagger of some sort hidden somewhere.
I can’t even tell you how much I’d like to draw a fight scene with people in togas….
Hey Klio, how is your shoulder?
MUCH better, thank you for asking! Yesterday it was still a little painful. This morning, it’s only a little bit stiff. But I’m continuing cautiously. Even though that’s not the drawing side, I’ll be careful how I sit, hold the arm, use it to position the paper, lean on the elbow, etc. Leaning on my elbows on a badly designed chair at work was how my hands went out of commission the first time. Not going to let that happen again if I can help it! π
Have you seen a doctor?
some pulled muscles heal on their own. If not, be sure you ask the doc about physical therapy. My doctor never suggests it. She will gladly authorise it when i need it, but i have to bring it up.
PT literally saved my butt(and other places) when I had sciatica.
It’ll be a while before I can see a doctor, but hopefully I’ll keep healing and won’t need one. Knock wood!
My cousin is a physical therapist. Maybe she’ll see me if I jet down to hang out in Miami π
I’m ashamed to say I didn’t ‘get’ the suggestive dialogue till you mentioned it.
I guess maybe my mind crawled out of the gutter for a breather or something.
If you have a roadmap for how to get one’s mind out of the gutter, I think I need one π
we has has more story plz?
I HOPE new comic tonight. I’ve had to scramble to take on extra freelance work this month (blah blah bills blah blah) and have been pulling some all-nighters (usually ending in sleep-deprived sketching of Romans). If I work hard on freelance this month, I can free up November for lots of story.
