Chapter IV: CCXXXXV
So, the end result of the horse debate from Friday at Carmine Street Comics and on Twitter…
1) …this mare is going down the stairs, bareback rider or not.
2) …that thing under the guy’s arm in panel 1 is, indeed, a saddle.
3) …I’m not entirely sure horses have hooves.
Go Horsie Go! This is no time to worry about insubstantial hooves… or just stirring up lots of volcanic dust. It’s time to make tracks for the shore…. or maybe just haul-yer buns down the road really-really fast! We’re rooting for you!
Ps: the saddle looks more or less right. EM would approve!
And (it’s cut off by the panel, but) NO stirrups.
That’s a fleshy horse, not like ours 😛

Unless that horse is planning to go into a career as a high-fashion model, it needs to eat more! 😀
Yes, Roman saddles use the knobs to help the rider keep his seat, but without stirrups, the rider does have to vault into the saddle in some way, which militates against very tall horses.
I was impressed by the limber girls in this YouTube video.
Maybe your nekkid horise could use some harness? A simple bridle, maybe a chest-strap to hold saddle in place? Should find some pics online… More please.
It would have been a lot easier for Talicus if he’d waited to steal the horse until the groom had put a bridle on it. But impulse control isn’t one of his strong points.
