In about 3 seconds Iusta was going to see if showing him what an actual hysterical woman looks like would have been any help in getting what she wants.
I’m so glad the comic’s back!! I hope you feel a lot better π By the way, do you have any specific update days? I’ve just been visiting once a week, and clicking back to where I left off…
Hi! Thank you so much for keeping an eye on the comic!
My goal is to keep a regular schedule–Monday, Wednesday, Friday, with extras sometimes on Sunday evenings. For a very short while I managed to do it. Sort of…
I’m building up a buffer of comics now so I can schedule them in advance π
Hooray for triplicate copies! But now comes the other shoe. The lists from Misenum should also be at Stabiae and so Felix will probably find out that only Spendusa, his daughter and her servant are listed among the living.
“As The Volcano Erupts” plot is now in full swing.
Yes. I meant Iusta. Got them confused. Now all it remains to see if Iusta will marry Felix. Mus is now officially declared dead, but he is alive under Domitian’s care, who still has a (excuse my french) hard-on for Felix, and then there is the other villain: Calatoria’s cousin who did survive and very likely lost all his wealth and probably remembers that Iusta’s father was very wealthy and had property in Rome and how is VERY aware of the trial about Iusta’s freeborn status.
Do not miss the next episode of “As the Volcano Erupts” brought to you by Lava Soap and Pumice Astringent.
Ahh, but Lava soap was pretty good stuff. It would grind/soak and generally remove the most stubborn grease and dirt. Didn’t smell particularly nice though.
Just a question. Does Iusta knows how to read and write? Educating females beyond what they needed for being a housewife was not a big priority in those times.
Early on in the story, we see that Helvius has been hired to tutor both Justa and Sejanti. Petronius Stephanus wanted a daughter who could hold her own.
I’m sure you’ve seen the various portraits of women in Pompeii and Herculaneum and elsewhere making a point to show that they’re literate (holding pens, scrolls, scribe apparatus, etc.). There are some nice examples of graffiti signed with female names. In any case, yes, Justa can read and write π
Of course I know that women were educated in those days, but it was in a per case basis. Some families would do it, others wouldn’t. I forgot all about it but reading today’s release made me realize that we’ve never seen Iusta reading.
I don’t think she’s a fan of it as a pastime. She probably preferred to be read to by Helvius. We see her looking at the documents around the freeing of Spendusa and Antonia’s birth, when Mus wants to include her name as a witness, but it isn’t plain whether she’s actually reading them.
Last time we checked she was going towards the volcano to visit her grandmother who lived there. She probably was killed by the toxic clouds that permeated the area before the main event.
I believe Mus would show up on official Roman lists variously as Ioudas ben Josephus or Ioudas Alexander son of Josephus.
His mother’s personal name has never been stated, no….
As for the pillows, first try settling the flighty female down on soft cushions with a cup of tea. Only try smothering as a last resort if the female continues to insist on speaking in the presence of men.
Just noticed something. The bureaucrats seem to have written down that Felicia Antonia is Iusta’s child by Felix and that Felix is her husband.
The black haired guy says “He’s here” and reads Felix’s name and then say “the father of your infant girl.”
I think they misheard her when she was giving her name and Felicia began crying at the same time.
They already consider her hysterical. They won’t listen to her while ranting but will probably give her poppy juice to shut her up and then call her “husband” to come and get her out of their office.

At last: a tearful reunion.. or have I spoken too soon! The pot boils furiously. Yay!
So glad to see you back! I hope you are feeling better.
Much better π Thank you.
“pillo-“?
Pillory? Pillows?
When I have a chance to edit, I’ll move lettering around so I can fit in a “w.”
Pillows.

Larry, you meant Iusta, not Spendusa, right?
so each will go to where the other is, causing massive plot twists.

I think you are allowed to get hysterical when trying to find out if your family is still among the living.
Ahh, but Lava soap was pretty good stuff. It would grind/soak and generally remove the most stubborn grease and dirt. Didn’t smell particularly nice though.
Lava soap is still around. I had a dog who liked to eat it. Sudsy.
In Ecuador, where I live, Lava is the trademark of a dish soap. It has nothing to do with volcanoes because the word lava means washing in Spanish.

So what happened to Sejanti anyhow? Is she dust in the wind bow now, or helping to write up scrolls of survivors in the Domitian’s scriptorum?
Last time we checked she was going towards the volcano to visit her grandmother who lived there. She probably was killed by the toxic clouds that permeated the area before the main event.
Try again: Dust in the wind BY NOW. I knew I could do it.
π
Oh, wait, that’s still a sad thing.
π
Why haven’t we ever(that I know of) learned Mus’ family name or his mother’s given name?
and what woudl they do with the pillows-smother her to shut her up?

Judas?
Not an uncommon name at the time. Judas, Ioudas, Judah, etc.

I noticed that too. Now will Iusta go along with it? or throw a fit to correct them?
They already consider her hysterical. They won’t listen to her while ranting but will probably give her poppy juice to shut her up and then call her “husband” to come and get her out of their office.
They’ll definitely want to get a male authority figure in there as soon as possible.
