Sketch of the day: work in progress
I consider these loose pencils, even though they look fairly tight–I’ll go over it to be more precise about proportions, details, and to add backgrounds. The dialogue, also, will probably change before the final comic.
It took hours to get it scanned 😛 But, good news: a wonderful wonderful friend is lending me her old laptop, and that should be a major step up from my old workhorse.
I’ll say that even this pencil draft shows all the emotion the main characters have:
Felix´s uneasiness (He has a frozen mask to conceal his fear).
Domitian’s anger.
Titus’ smugness on truly surprising his brother.
Shouty guy´s (forgot his name) concern (He is thinking promotion, not knowing the story behind the Flavian brothers and Felix).
Titus’ IMPERIAL anger (at everybody it seems).
I still think that these scenes are worthy of a game of thrones tv-show. You should find someone who may be interested in pitching it up. HBO is looking for new material since GoT is ending.
Thank you for the feedback on the pencils–I’ve been consciously working to make the characters more expressive even when they aren’t speaking.
Titus IS angry at everybody who gives him even the slightest bit of push-back. He has a very bad headache.
Shouty Guy is Sabinus 🙂
I didn’t know GoT is ending. I should maybe watch it sometime. Also, I should find someone to pitch Epic Romans to 😀
What I like about your drawings is that the characters expressions never remain static. They change with the scene.
For example:
Domitian’s cautious look at Felix. Then his angry glare at his brother followed by another angry look at Felix and then to a studious look of feigned boredom when he talks to him. Ending with an impassive look at his brother when he complains.
Titus from pleasure at what is happening to annoyance at his brother’s complain and ending with his imperial anger.
You have managed to draw every single emotion as if you were using real people standing in for your characters and drawing each panel as if it was a stand-alone painting.
